Private James Thomson

Private James Weddell Thomson. 6th Battalion,  Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in action in Italy during the fighting to secure the Anzio beach head on 3rd April 1944, aged 29. He hads been born in Glendale, Wooler and was the son of James and Euphemia Thomson and the husband of Isabella Thomson of Lempitlaw, Sprouston, Roxburghshire and is buried in Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio, Italy.  Before enlisting he had managed grocery stores in Kelso and Lauder. The photograph shows Gordons in a trench at Anzio.
