Private William Kemp Scott, 26th Battalion, Australian Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 5th August 1916, aged 35, during the Battle of the Somme. He was the son of William and Agnes Kemp Scott of Braidlee, Newcastleton and of White House Cottage, St. Boswells and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Somme, France. He had emigrated to Australia in 1907 and was working in Queensland when he enlisted in January 1916. He joined his Battalion on 2nd August but was killed only three days later.( This Memorial is the Australian National Memorial ). The photographs show troops on the Somme.
