Private James Proudfoot

Private James Stevenson Proudfoot, 6th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in England during the Blitz on 18th November 1940, aged 20. He was the son of James and Hannah Stevenson of Newcastleton and is buried in Castleton Cemetery, Newcastleton. At that time the Battalion was billeted in the pleasure park at Theydon Bois, Essex near London when two platoon billets of ” A ” Coy.were hit by a landmine dropped by German raiders. 30 men were killed and another 30 were injured.
