Lance Corporal Christopher Elliot

Lance Corporal Christopher Elliot, 1st/4th ( Territorial ) Battalion,  Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He died of wounds, aged 34, in a Casualty Clearing Station at Lijssenthoek in Belgium on 10th February 1918 and is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Flanders, Belgium. He had been born in Castleton and was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Elliot of Whitchester Street, Newcastleton. He had served his apprenticeship as a slater in Newcastleton. He had originally enlisted in the 1st/4th (Territorial ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers but was transferred to the K.O.Y.L.I. in France in 1916. ( He had named his sister Mrs Robert Murray of Newcastleton as his legatee ).
