Corporal Robert Lillie

Corporal Robert Lillie, 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 29th September 1918, aged 23, during the ” Advance to Victory ” and is buried at Villers Hill British Cemetery Villers Guiscans, France. He had been born in Whitsome, Berwickshire was the grandson of Robert and Marsaila Lillie of Langrig, Leitholm and before enlisting in December 1914 he had worked with the horses on the farm. He had already been wounded three times the third being at the Battle of Polygon Wood during the Third Battle of Ypres. The photographs show Allied troops advancing after the retreating German Army during the final 100 days of the War.
