Corporal Robert Lillie, 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 29th September 1918, aged 23, and is buried at Villers Hill British Cemetery Villers Guiscans, France. He was the son of Robert and Marsaila Lillie of Langrig, Leitholm and before enlisting he had worked with the horses on the farm. He had already been wounded three times the third being at the Battle of Polygon Wood during the Third Battle of Ypres. The photograph shows a group of Highlanders checking a dugout in a captured German trench.
