Rifleman William Noble

Rifleman William Noble, 1st Battalion, Rifle Brigade. He was killed in action on 16th June 1918 during the Battle of the Lys aged 31. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of George and Helen Noble of Blainslie, Lauder and the husband of Mary J. Murdoch (formerly Noble) of Blainslie, Lauder. He is buried in Le Vertannoy British Cemetery, Hinges, France.  He had originally enlisted in the Army Ordnance Corps but was transferred to the Rifle brigade. The photos show British troops in makeshift defensive positions awaiting further German advances.
