Private William Mauchline

Private William Mauchline, “A” Coy.,1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Belgium on 18th August 1918 during “The Advance to Victory” aged 24. He had been born in Fogo and was the son of Archibald and Euphemia Mauchline of Thirlestane, Lauder and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium. He had originally been a member of the 1st/4th Battalion bit at some point had been transferred to the 1st Battalion. He fell in the successful attack on Hoegenacker Mill where 15 Other Ranks were killed and 300 prisoners were taken. The photographs show Allied troops during the final advance after the retreating German army in the final 100 days of the War.
