Lieutenant Donald Bird

Lieutenant Donald Alfred Bird, Royal Army Medical Corps attached 1st Battalion, East Surrey Regiment. He died in France on 18th June 1940 after the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force, aged 26. He had been born in Canada and was the son of Alfred and Helen Bird of Blackchester, Lauder and is buried in Malo-Les-Bains Communal Cemetery near Dunkirk, France. He had graduated L.R.C.P./ M.R.C.S. from Edinburgh University in September 1939 and gained his Commission in the R.A.M.C. that same month. His Headstone is inscribed ” He Ventured All In Obedience To Thy Call”.
