Private Andrew Turner, 22nd ( Service ) Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. He was killed in action in France, aged 19, on the 26th March 1918 during the German Spring Offensives. He had been born at Kyloe and was the third son of William and Isabella Turner of Berryburn, Ancroft and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France. Before enlisting in April 1917 he had been employed as a gardener at Haggerston Castle, Berwick-upon-Tweed. The photos show Allied troops in defensive positions.
