Lance Corporal John Ord, M.M.

Lance Corporal John Ord, M.M., 6th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Normandy, aged 31, on the 8th August 1944. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Ord and the husband of Frances Ord of Team Colliery, County Durham. He is buried in Bayeux War Cemetery, Normandy where his Headstone is inscribed ” Blessed Are The Pure In Heart For They shall See God “. He fell in the sometimes close quarter fighting in the Estry sector of the bocage Normandy countryside of Normandy. Lance Corporal Ord had won his Military Medal near St Manvieu for gallantry in the field on the 26th June when he had carried out a number of individual feats of fieldcraft stalking stubborn German positions and silencing a machine gun post which had been bothering Battalion H.Q.
