Pilot Officer William Cockburn D.F.M.

Pilot Officer William Hugh Cockburn, D.F.M., Royal Air Force. He was lost on Operations with 58 Squadron R.A.F. over the Atlantic on 21st August 1944, aged 24. He was the son of Christopher and Annie and the husband of Audrey Cockburn. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. 58 Squadron was part of Coastal Command and flew the Handley Page Halifax GR Mk11 bomber on anti shipping/submarine operations from R.A.F. St Davids in Pembrokeshire.
