Private James Philip Brownlie, 8th ( Service ) Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in Belgium on 12th December 1915, aged 26. At that time the Battalion was holding trenches in the Hill 60 sector of the Ypres Salient and suffered casualties from shelling and sniping. He was the husband of Mrs J. Prentice ( formerly Brownlie ) of 5 Union Street, Kelso and is buried in Railway Dugouts Burial Ground ( Transport Farm ) Zillebeke, Flanders, Belgium. Before enlisting in October 1914 he had worked as a slater. The Battalion were designated as a Pioneer Battalion in the 15th (Scottish) Division.
