Private James Fairgrieve

Private James H. Fairgrieve, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died of wounds at Gallipoli on 18th June 1915, aged 32. He was the son of the late James and Margaret Grieve of Ferneyhill Cottage, Kelso and is buried in Lancashire Landing Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.  He had been employed on the Hendersyde Estate, Ednam and as a member of the 4th K.O.S.B. Territorials he was mobilised with the Battalion in August 1914. He was the very first of the Battalion to die during the Campaign and as yet they had not reached the firing line.
