Sergeant Robert Andrew Huggan Waldie, 8th ( Service ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He died from wounds in France, aged 22, on the 25th April 1917 during the Battle of Arras. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of the late Robert Waite and Janet Waite of 35 High Street, Jedburgh. He had been employed as a grocer in Kelso when he enlisted in September 1914. and joined the 2nd Battalion in France in May 1915. He was wounded 3 times during his Service and he died in the 8th Casualty Clearing Station at Duisans. He is buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” Ye Shall Receive A Crown Of Glory That Fadeth Not Away”. He may have been wounded during the capture of Guemappe on the 23rd/24th April. The photos show troops during the Battle of Arras.
