Sergeant Joseph Halley

Sergeant Joseph King Halley, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from wounds at Gallipoli, aged 32, on the 23rd December 1915.  He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of James and Mary Halley of 13 Old Bridge End, Jedburgh. He had been a Regular Soldier had been discharged but as a Reservist he was recalled to the Colours on the outbreak of War. He went with the 2nd K.O.S.B to France in August 1914 and was wounded in action. He recovered in Craigleith Hospital in Edinburgh and was then posted to the 1st Battalion at Gallipoli. He was reported to have died from wounds but as his burial place was lost he is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Helles, Gallipoli, Turkey. ( His brother Robert also fell- see below ).
