Sergeant/Air Gunner Robert Hall

Sergeant/Air Gunner Robert Hall, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was lost on an Air Operation over Italy, aged 22, on the 3rd March 1945. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of John and Mary Hall of 70 Castlegate, Jedburgh. He had been employed by the North British Rayon Company in Jedburgh before enlisting in 1941. After training in the U.S.A. and Canada he was posted to 70 Squadron, R.A.F. in Italy in mid 1944. His aircraft crashed near Manfredonia after an engine fire with no survivors. The squadron was based at Tortorella in Italy and flew the Consolidated Liberator BV1. He is buried in Bari War Cemetery, Italy where his Headstone is inscribed ” At The Going Down Of the Sun And In The Morning We Will Remember Them”.
