Private William Lunn, 7th/8th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 22, on the 27th August 1917 during the Battle of Third Ypres. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of William and Isabella Lunn of 4 Queen Street, Jedburgh. He had been employed at Allars Mill and was a member of the 4th Territorial, K.O.S.B. He was mobilised in August 1914 but was posted as a Signaller to the 7th/8th Battalion late 1916. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Flanders, Belgium. On 27th August the Battalion was in reserve but was subjected to an artillery bombardment. Private Lunn and a fellow signaller were killed when their dugout was hit by a shell. They were buried nearby but the graves were lost in the subsequent fighting. The photos show troops in the early stages of the Battle.
