Private Robert Mabin

Private Robert Taylor Cairncross Mabin, 9th ( Service ) Battalion, Cameronians. He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 20, on the 20th September 1917 during the Battle of Third Ypres. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of Thomas Mabin amd Isabella Mabin of The Bow and 6 Abbey Close, Jedburgh. Before enlisting he had worked as a butcher in High Street, Jedburgh. He had originally enlisted in the Royal Scots Fusiliers but was posted to the Cameronians in France. He is buried in Perth Cemetery ( China Wall) Flanders, Belgium where his Headstone is inscribed ” To Memory Ever Dear”. He fell in an attack near the Hanebeek stream. All the objectives were gained and enemy counter attacks repulsed. The photos show troops during the Battle.
