Private Robert Cochrane, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from wounds in Palestine, aged 19, on the 20th April 1917. He had been born in Dunlop, Ayrshire and was the son of Robert and Mary Cochrane of Abbey Bridge End, Jedburgh. Before enlisting in November 1914 he had been employed at Oxnam Neuk Dairy. He was wounded during the Second Battle of Gaza in the attack on the Turkish positions on ” Outpost Hill” which cost the Battalion 6 Officers and 44 Other Ranks killed and 9 Officers and 152 Other Ranks wounded. He is buried in Deir El Belah War Cemetery, Palestine. The photos show the Borderers in Palestine in 1917.
