Private John Storrie, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France, aged 28, on the 23rd August 1914 during the Battle of Mons. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of Andrew and Maggie Storrie of Bonjedward, Jedburgh and the husband of Elizabeth Storrie whom he had married in Jedburgh in 1913. He had worked at Jedburgh Railway Station before enlisted as a Regular Soldier and had served in India before obtaining his discharge and going to work for the North British Railway Company at Leith Walk Station As a Reservist he was mobilised in August 1914 on the outbreak of War and went to France on the 15th August 1914. On that day the Battalion was in positions near Les Herbiers on the Mons Conde Canal and repulsed several powerful German attacks before withdrawing the next day to Wasmes. Casualties were 4 Officers and around 50 Other Ranks killed wounded and missing. ( Exact figures are disputed but vary from 40-100 ). He is commemorated on the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France.
