Private James McGuire

Private James Brady McGuire, 6th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in England, aged 23, by enemy action on the 18th November 1940. He had been born in Airdrie and was the son of Patrick and Mary McGuire of Parkland, Jedburgh and Carricknowe, Edinburgh. He had been employed by the Noth British Rayon Company in Jedburgh before moving to Edinburgh. The Battalion had been billeted a building known as ” Yates Retreat” in Heydon Bois, Essex and were tasked with patrol and security duties when on the night of the 18th November the building was struck by a parachute mine dropped by a German raider. 30 men were killed and many more injured. He is buried in Mount Vernon Roman Catholic Cemetery, Edinburgh where his Headstone is inscribed ” Eternal Rest Give Unto Him, O Lord And Let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him”.
