Private James Hope

Private James Hope, 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France, aged 34, on the 30th July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He had been born in Southdean, Roxburghshire and was the son of the late Margaret and James Hope of Bonjedward Mill. Jedburgh. m Before enlisting he had been employed as a ploughman and had joined his Battalion in France in 1916. The Fusiliers were in trenches near Trones Wood in preparation for an attack the next day but were subjected to a German bombardment which caused some casualties.
