Private Charles Aitken Thomson, 2nd Battalion, Australian Infantry. He was killed at Gallipoli, aged 27, on the 2nd May 1915. He had been born in Hobkirk, Roxburghshire and was the son of Robert Thomson of Sharplaw, Jedburgh and Mrs Thomson of Wark, Cornhill-on-Tweed and 2 Exchange Street, Jedburgh. He had been employed as a gardener at Hartrigge, Jedburgh before emigrating to New South Wales in 1911. He enlisted in August 1914 and landed on Gallipoli in April 1915. On 2nd/3rd May the Battalion positions were shelled with 2 Other Ranks killed and 1 wounded. He is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
