Private Alexander Turnbull, 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He died from wounds in France, aged 20, on the 21st May 1918 during the German Spring offensives on the River Lys. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of Richard and Isabella Turnbull of 3 Castlegate, Jedburgh. He had been an apprentice grocer in Jedburgh when he enlisted in the 2nd Gordons in July 1915. He was wounded in France and upon recovery he was posted to the 1st Battalion. He died in a Casualty Clearing Station at Pernes and is buried in Pernes British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
