Lance Corporal William Freer, 6th Division Supply Column, Army Service Corps. He died in an accident on Active Service in France, aged 26, on the 22nd February 1918. He had been born at Teviothead, Hawick and was the son of Ellen and the late John Freer of 83 Castlegate, Jedburgh and the husband of Elizabeth Freer of Yarrow, Selkirk. Before enlisting in August 1914 he had been employed by Messrs Sword and Co. in Jedburgh. He landed in France in August 1914. Later in France he became a dispatch rider and he was fatally injured in an accident with a motor lorry whilst on duty at night. He was brought into the 29th Casualty Clearing Station but was dead on arrival. He is buried in Grevillers British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
