Lance Corporal Andrew Young

Lance Corporal Andrew George Young, 15th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He died from wounds, aged 23, in France on the 21st May 1918. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of Ex Provost Alexander Young and Catherine Young of  Friars Cottage, Jedburgh.He had been educated at Jedburgh Grammar School and George Watson’s School, Edinburgh before joining the Family boot and shoe business in Peebles. He had also worked in the trade in Edinburgh before enlisting in the Lothian and Border Horse in March 1915 and becoming the Brigade signaller.  In April 1915 he was transferred to the Royal Scots and went to France in April 1918. On the 19trh May he was wounded in an enemy air raid and taken to an hospital in Etaples where he died from his wounds. He is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” Until The Day Dawn”.
