Gunner Thomas Yellowlees, City of Edinburgh Heavy Battery, Lowland Brigade, Royal Garrison Artillery. He died on Service, aged 24, on the 24th July 1918. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of Elizabeth and the late Gideon Yellowlees of 83 Castlegate, Jedburgh. He had served his apprenticeship at the Jedburgh Electric Works and enlisted in the R.G.A. in October 1914. Due to his being a skilled electrical engineer he was posted to work in munitions until at his request he re joined his old Unit. During his training he contracted influenza and died in the Military Hospital in Hazeley Down Camp, Winchester. (At that time the “Spanish Flu” epidemic was sweeping the World causing many deaths ). He is buried in Castlegate Cemetery, Jedburgh.
