Gunner David Wright Scott, 290th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 23, on the 31st October 1917 during the Battle of Third Ypres. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of James and the late Joan Scott and the stepson of May Scott of 10 High Street, Jedburgh. He was a baker to trade and before enlisting he had lived with his brother in St Boswells. He enlisted in December 1915 and was posted to his Battery in December 1916. He is buried in Ruisseau Farm Cemetery, Flanders, Belgium. The R.G.A used heavy artillery pieces such as the 9.2 inch howitzer to demolish enemy strong points with their plunging fire.
