Gunner Andrew Campbell

Gunner Andrew Campbell, 146th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. He died from wounds in Belgium, aged 32, on the 3rd May 1915. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of the late John and Agnes Campbell . He is buried in Poperinghe Old Military Cemetery, Flanders, Belgium. He had been a Regular soldier and had served in India with 63 Battery. As a Reservist he was recalled to the Colours on the outbreak of War. He had been employed as a stonemason by the Ancient Monuments Commission and had been working on Jedburgh Abbey. He had landed in France in January 1915. The Field Artillery used the 18 pounder gun in an anti infantry role using both high explosive and shrapnel shells,
