Private William Cowe

Private William Cowe, 10th ( Service ) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry ( The City of Glasgow Regiment ) He was killed in Normandy on 27th June 1944, aged 24. He had been born in Coldingham and was the son of William and Isa Cowe of Ryslaw, Duns and the husband of Euphemia Cowe of Aberlady and is buried in Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux, France.  His Headstone is inscribed ” Safe Is Your Refuge Sweet Is Your Rest We Miss You Most That Loved You Best”. Before enlisting in 1939 he had worked on a farm in the Reston area.  The Battalion had landed in Normandy on 18th June 1944 and had seen heavy fighting near Cheux during ” Operation Epsom”.
