Gunner Adam Shearlaw

Gunner Adam Shearlaw, “B” Battery, 107th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. He died from wounds in France on 16th April 1917, aged 33. He had been born in Coldingham and was the son of George and Janet Shearlaw of Green head Farm, Reston and Houndwood and the husband of the late Nellie Shearlaw of Cheeklaw, Duns. He is buried in Aix-Noulette Communal Cemetery Extension, France. He is also commemorated on the Duns War Memorial. He had been employed as a ploughman in Whittinghame, East Lothian when he enlisted in November 1915. The standard Field artillery piece was the 18 pounder gun and used both high explosive and shrapnel shells as shown below.
