Deck Hand Adam Shell

Deck Hand Adam Shell, Royal Naval Reserve. He was lost aboard H. M. Trawler ” Ameer ” on 18th March 1916, aged 34 and is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial. He was the son of Adam and Margaret Shell of Holy Island and the husband of Alice Shell of 4 Mafeking Street, Gateshead. His brother was also aboard but managed to escape injured. His ship was a former Grimsby trawler of 216 tons requisitioned by the Admiralty as a minesweeper and she was attached to” Ganges ” a training establishment at Shotley. Suffolk.
