Private William Henry

Private William Henry, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action on 18th August 1918 during “The Advance to Victory” aged 26. He had been born in Greenlaw and was the son of George Henry of Rowchester, Greenlaw. He is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium. He had originally served with the 1st/4th K.O.S.B. before being transferred to the 1st Battalion. He fell in the successful attack on Hoegenacker Mill where the Battalion took 300 prisoners and 60 Machine Guns but suffered 134 casualties. 2 Officers and 21 Other Ranks were killed 3 Officers and 105 Other Ranks were wounded. The photographs show Allied troops during the advance after the retreating German army in the final 100 days of the War.
