Private Matthew Clapham

Private Matthew Clapham, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died of wounds whilst a Prisoner of War in Germany on 20th June 1918 aged 38. He had been born in Foulden and was the son of James and Janet Liddel Clapham of High Street, Greenlaw and husband of Jane Carruthers Clapham of Gateside Cottage, Duns.  Before enlisting he had been employed in his father’s rabbit catching business. He is buried in Berlin South-Western Cemetery, Berlin and was the brother of Robert Clapham above.
