Company Sergeant Major James Cochrane

Company Sergeant Major James Cochrane, 6th(Service) Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles. He was killed in action on 8th August 1915 at Gallipoli, aged 36. He had been born in Gordon and was the son of Andrew Cochrane of Gordon and the husband of Elizabeth Cochrane of Leinster Road, Rathmines, Dublin.  At age 18 he had enlisted in the Scots Guards and had served in the South African War. He was discharged in 1911 and was living in Dublin with his wife and family when he re-enlisted. He was buried in New Zealand No 2 Outpost Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey where his Headstone is inscribed ” R.I.P. “.
