Lance Corporal James Ireland

Lance Corporal James Ireland, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France, aged 21, on the 18th September during the ” Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Dornock, Dumfriesshire and was the son of Margaret (Ireland), Elliot of Stobswood, Langton.  He is buried in Gouzeaucourt, New British Cemetery, Somme, France. He fell in the action around the strong German positions at ” African Trench” which caused casualties especially in Officers. The photos show Allied troops advancing after the retreating German army in the final 100 days of the War.
