Private Mark Turnbull

Private Mark Turnbull, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in France on 2nd March 1916 aged 32. He had been born in Gattonside to Elizabeth and the late Mark Turnbull of Gattonside and is buried in Ste. Catherine British Cemetery, Arras, France. Before enlisting he had been employed as a tailor. Whilst on active service he had been evacuated due to frostbite before returning to the front where he had been wounded in July 1915. When he died the Battalion had been in trenches near Arras in what had been a quiet sector. During the four month stay the Battalion had casualties of 2 Officers and 20 Other Ranks.
