Private James Wynn, 10th/11th ( Service ) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action in Belgium on 9th April 1918, aged 29 during the Battle of the Lys which was part of the German Spring Offensives. He had been born in Edinburgh to Thomas and the late Mary Wynn and was the husband of Isabella Wynn of Gattonside, Melrose. Before enlisting he had been employed as a gardener at Gattonside and he is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Ploegsteert, Hainault, Belgium. The photographs show British troops in makeshift defensive positions awaiting fresh German advances.
