Sergeant William Halliday, 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in action in France, aged 27, on the 26th May 1915 during the Second Battle of Ypres. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of James and the late Mary Halliday of 7 Park Street, Galashiels. He had enlisted as a Regular Soldier in 1906 and had served in India and Egypt. The Battalion landed in Belgium in October 1915. He was wounded at Ypres in late October but after recovery re joined the Battalion in March 1915. He is buried in Guards Cemetery, Windy Corner, Cuinchy, France. His brother Francis also fell during the War -see above.
