Private Robert Stewart Henderson, 4th (South African Scottish) Regiment, South African Infantry. He died on Service, aged 18, on the 22nd October 1918 from influenza in hospital near Guildford in Surrey. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of David and Christina Henderson of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He is buried in the Henderson family plot in Eastlands cemetery, Galashiels. He was an apprentice engineer when he enlisted in April 1918 claiming to be over 19 y.o. and sailed to the U.K. from Capetown in July 1918.
