Private John Duncanson, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action at Gallipoli, aged 21, on the 28th June 1915. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of George and Elizabeth Duncanson of 78 Halliburton Place. He had joined the 2nd K.O.S.B in France in September 1914 and was wounded and evacuated home. Upon recovery he was posted to the 1st Battalion in Gallipoli. He fell in the attack on the Turkish positions at Gully Ravine where the objectives were secured and repeated counter attacks repulsed. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Helles, Gallipoli, Turkey. The photo shows the Borderers “going over the top at Gallipoli”.
