Private Frank Gibson, 5th (Service) Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action in France, aged 31, on the 23rd March 1918 on the third day of the German Spring Offensives. He had been born in Whitsome, Berwickshire and was the son of George and Margaret of Whitsome. He had enlisted in Galashiels in November 1914 and joined the 1st Battalion in France in March 1915. By June 1917 he had been transferred to the 5th Battalion. The photos show Allied troops in defensive positions.
