He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of Catherine and the late John Dobson of 13 Roxburgh Street, Galashiels and Queensland Australia and the husband of Mary Dobson of 50 Daniell Street, Wellington, New Zealand. He had been a plumber in Galashiels when the family emigrated to Australia in the early 1880s. He married there before moving to New Zealand and was a Volunteer with the Wellington Highland Rifles when War broke out. He was rejected for enlistment on account of his age so he joined the New Zealand Shipping Company and his enlistment was accepted onboard a troopship in Alexandria harbour on the 3rd January 1915. His Regiment then went to Gallipoli on the 25th April as part of the ANZAC Corps where he was killed in action. The photos show Anzacs at Gallipoli.
