Private William Bain Currie, 1st/4th (Border) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on Active Service on Malta, aged 20, on the 29th October 1915 and is buried in Pieta Military cemetery, Malta. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of Thomas and Annie Currie of Old Gala House, Galashiels. He had been a Battalion Bugler with the 4th Territorial K.O.S.B. and was mobilised with the Battalion in August 1914 going to Gallipoli as part of the 52nd (Lowland) Division in June 1915. He was a stretcher bearer during the “Charge” on 12th July but later contracted dysentery and was evacuated to hospital in Malta where he died. His Headstone is inscribed ” He Died That We Might Live”
