Private John Andrew Brady, 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He died from wounds in France, aged 20, on the 16th May 1915. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of John and Elizabeth Brady of Galashiels. He had joined his Battalion in France in November 1914 and had suffered from frostbite before being fatally wounded. He is buried in Guards Cemetery, Windy Corner, Cuinchy, France where his Headstone is inscribed “Rest In Peace”. It is likely he was wounded during the attack of the 7th Division at Festubert on 16th May. Battalion losses were 3 Officers and 53 Other Ranks killed and 10 Officers and 204 Other Ranks wounded. In addition 10 Other Ranks were posted missing. The photos show troops at Festubert.
