Private Andrew Davidson, 10th (Service) Battalion, Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding ) Regiment. He was killed in action in Italy, aged 25, on the 29th October 1918 and is buried in Giavera British Cemetery. Arcade, Italy. He had been born in Fairnington, Roxburghshire and was the son of Andrew and the late Margaret Davidson of 48 Market Street, Galashiels and the husband of Catherine Davidson of 123 High Buckholmside, Galashiels. He had been employed as a groom in the Buckholmside Skinworks when he enlisted in the Army Veterinary Corps in January 1915. He went to France that month but in 1917 he was transferred to the “Dukes”. going to Italy in November 1917. He was wounded in action at the River Piave, Italy and died in the 39th Casualty Clearing Station. ( His brother Robert also fell during the War – see below).
