Corporal John Balmer

Corporal John Jamieson Balmer, Army Service Corps. He died in Galashiels, aged 52, on the 21st November 1924. He had been born in Kelso and was the son of Elizabeth and the late Adam Balmer of Greenlaw, Berwickshire and the husband of Euphemia Balmer. He had been employed as a grocer’s vanman in Lauder before enlisting in the 3rd/4th .K.O.S.B. He was later transferred to the A.S.C. but did not go overseas. He became ill and was later discharged from the Army and was awarded the Silver War Badge in December 1919. At present his burial place is unknown.
