Corporal Gilbert Brownlee

Corporal Gilbert Brownlee, 1st Battalion, Cameronians, He was killed in action in France, aged 31, on the 28th October 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of John and Mary Brownlee of 5 Spring Valley Terrace, Edinburgh and the husband of Jessie Brownlee of 4 Spring Valley, Edinburgh. He was working as a plumber in Edinburgh when he enlisted in the Royal Scots in August 1914. In August 1916 he was posted to the Cameronians in France. He is buried in Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval, Somme, France.
