Acting Sergeant William McFarlane Brotherstone, 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, Royal Army Medical Corps. He died on Active Service in German East Africa, aged 25 and is buried in Dar Es Salaam War Cemetery Tanzania. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of Robert and Barbara Brotherstone of 3 Galapark Road and 77 Channel Street, Galashiels. He had been employed as a warehouseman in Gala before enlisting and going to France with the 2ndCCS in mid August 1914. He was gassed at Loos in September 1915 and on recovery he was posted to the campaign in German East Africa. he suffered from appendicitis and died in hospital from peritonitis.
