Sergeant Gilbert Douglas James Hanlon, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed in a flying accident on 17th February 1944 aged 20. He was the son of James and Eva Hanlon of Brighton, Sussex and is buried in Fogo Churchyard. ( His name is not on the Fogo War Memorial ). His Bristol Beaufighter was on its final approach to Winfield Aerodrome when control was lost and it crashed at Fallow Farm just south of Charterhall. His Headstone is inscribed ” O Light Eternal, Jesus Blest, Shine On Them All And Grant Them Rest “
